ABOUT US
TIEMPO DE ZAFRA is an atelier and collective based in Santo Domingo, RD.
The collective works exclusively with pre-consumer excess textile discarded by local tailors and factories as well as post-consumer goods from second hand markets. All our patterns and sewing are done in-house, where these materials are then reworked and up-cycled into quality 1 of 1 pieces. The material guides the design and production of our garments, which by proxy, extends the life cycle of the fabric itself. Since we own and execute our production, we control how excess is used and ensure it doesn’t end up in landfills.
As an alternative to fast fashion, our approach challenges conventional consumerism as every piece is a collaboration between Tiempo de Zafra and clients. The color, design, pattern and fit is conceptualized with each person, which allows us to create pieces that are non-replicable and inclusive of all bodies and needs. When someone wears Tiempo de Zafra, there is a transparent and direct link to how it was made, where it was made and whose hands made it, which deepens the connection to each garment and accessory.
